Although File Transfer Protocol has become routine, the Internet is an ever changing environment which can be fast paced and dynamic. The intent of this news letter is to deliver up-to-date and insightful ideas which can enrich the experience of information exchange on the World Wide Web. Most of our daily experiences consist of accomplishing routine tasks. We do not take the crucial time necessary to determine how we might simplify these duties and have more time to appreciate the pleasures of our lives. The World Wide Web is considered a time saver for shopping, research, and communication. However, use of the internet has some unintended consequences. On average we are spending more time on the Internet and less time with our friends and family. Stanford University reports:

The objective of One Step UpLoad is to help with these time dilemmas by providing tools that take repetitive tasks and bundle them so that they are less time intensive. Thus, people can accomplish many of their internet tasks and still have time to spend with friends and families.

Time Saving Features

Inside OSUL, there are three check boxes on the “Send a Photo Page” that can be very useful when time is short or writing details for each picture is not required.

Selecting the first check box instructs the system to use the defaults provided with the software. Using these, the title description will be set to “Below are some photos from us.......” and the title on each photo page will be simply “Photos”. If the second two check boxes are checked, all of the image text areas will be blank and One Step UpLoad (OSUL) will eliminate the content prompts for each image.

Using these check boxes can be a great time saver. However, remember that these check boxes reset to blank whenever you restart the program.

Personal Corner

Running a quick search on internet reveals that there are 313,336,304 jpg images for immediate display on the internet, ranging from business to very personal, in every shape and size. The new and innovative ways people are using the internet is fascinating. Some of these ideas make sense and others do not. For instance, I find it interesting that people would write journal entries of a personal nature and digitize personal photos then post them both on public sites. Everyone and anyone has access to what is often quite personal information. It is like going down to the local market and posting pictures of your vacation on the bulletin board for everyone to see. As an alternative for those who value their online privacy, One Step UpLoad provides a quick and easy way to post images on a private site, thus maintaining control of your own personal images. This option allows you to share the pointer with only those friends and family that might be interested, while leaving the public websites to others.

Business Corner

Business use of the internet is increasing at a rapid rate. Based on a September 2004 article, The Domain Name Industry Brief, by VeriSign.com, a domain name registration company, the market had been adding 1.1 million new domain names per month at that time. Most of these are business related. Renewal rates also show a positive trend, 75% in June 2004. According to VeriSign.com estimates, there were 64.5 million websites worldwide as of this time frame. The internet is continuing to expand at a rapid rate. As of the Second Quarter 2005, domain registration had increased to an all time high of 82.9 million worldwide according to the Domain Name Industry Brief. The number of new registrations grew by 8% in the second quarter of 2005, resulting in 8.1 million new domain names, an impressive 28% increase over the last year. The Domain Name Industry Brief for August 2005 indicated that, as of this date, there were 221 million internet users in North America , and 31 million domain names (14% penetration for them). Their North America category includes the United States , Canada and Mexico . Clearly, more and more businesses are joining the online market place. The benefits of an online presence are numerous, including easy availability for both new and existing customers. Despite the advantages, many small companies are intimidated by the thought of managing their own website, though they can’t afford it otherwise. One Step UpLoad provides the tools necessary to more easily manage an FTP site without having to hire a web master.
